This was my first successful entry for the weekly character art competition over at conceptart.org. The theme of the week was the “blood moon monk”:
The Blood Moon Monk:
A strange figure with no particular religion or philosophy tied directly to him. He travels the world in search of knowledge – both of himself, and of the universe. To him, to be is to know, and only in knowing there is being.
He seems to only wander into populated areas just when there is someone who needs to be ‘taken care’ of. This be a young man who needs only to be set back on the right path, or someone – something – much more dangerous, for which only lethal force can be used. Somehow, this strange monk just seems to always be in the right place at the right time…
Admittedly, my rendition doesn’t seem to convey the character very well, but I was very pleased with the picture anyways. This was the first time I’ve ever seriously tried to draw someone in perspective.
